Xena

April 14, 2008 Best Friends Boxer Rescue would like to welcome Xena. Xena was a stray that came to us from a rescue friendly shelter. She is current on her vaccinations, she is heartworm negative and on preventative, she has been wormed, and she is spayed. She was a very friendly girl during her long ride, settling right down for each leg of her transport. She gave everyone she met lots of boxer kisses. More to come as her foster home gets to know her!

4/16/08 - Xena arrived in our house a few days ago and she has been a pleasure! At first sight I thought she was fat but in actuality she is just big boned. I have two dogs (male and female) and they have been being introduced very slowly.....my dogs think that they are King and Queen and seem to be snubbing Xena - you know how royality can be! Xena has learned the "sit" command and now we are working on the "down" command. She responds to her name when called. Currently she does not wander too far from my husband and I....she just wants to be loved! Xena sleeps in her crate at night and often times will go to bed if she is ready before we are. Xena is also crated when we go to work during the day. It is wonderful to see a dog eat their food slowly. She was on some medicine and you can just lay the food on top and she eats it with the rest. She is wonderful with doing her business and going for a walk but always eager to get back home. We took her to a doggy wash where we washed her and she was a little skeptical at first. At the end of the bath it was dry time (it was a hose that blew air out)and she was hilarious!!! She would keep turning her butt around so the air could touch her butt as she did the "oh that feels so good dance!" If you are looking for a companion that will be very loyal to you and love you to pieces, then Xena is the dog for you. She is being a great student trying to learn her commands so she can find her forever home.

May 3, 2008 - We have had Xena for over 2 weeks now and she has been such a pleasure! She is a wonderful young lady. She is now living within the house without her leash....my dogs still snuff her though! She enjoys her time outside on a run just sitting there and chillin or pawing at a baseball. She still loves to be right by your side. While inside she loves to sit in our bay window and look outside or she waits for one of the other dogs to get off the ottoman. The ottoman is for the dogs and that is the only furniture she goes on. She does not bark unless my male dog starts barking and then she just feels the need to chime in. I have to laugh because she only goes upstairs if I go upstairs and we have steep stairs. So she gets going and stops half way because she can't make it up all the way....so she turns around goes to the bottom to get enough steam to make it up. She gets very excited in the morning when she sees you or feeding time. She goes around in circles like 10 times! It is hilarious!!! She is completely housebroken and will let you know if she needs to go out before her usual time. She does have one bad habit though and that is she cannot be left unattended when there is food out and the garbage has to have a lid. I was carrying in the groceries over the weekend and I came back into the house to find half the loaf of bread gone. It was funny but she was repremanded and she went to her cage. She was a stray so I think she still feels that she isn't going to get enough food. Then the other day my husband and I went to look at our dogs outside (no more than two minutes) and the little "angel" had put her paws onto the counter and ate half a bag of rolls. So we now use the scat mat which she has been introduced to and does not like it! I think she would be with good with kids. Our friends brought over thier one year old the other day and she licked her repeatedly. Of course with little ones she would have to be watched because she likes to lean on you like a cat when she wants to be loved. Xena really really good dog! She loves people! She does a great job going into her crate..........which she goes into while we are at work or at night. When you go to bed though she needs to make sure all her masters say goodnight and acknowledge her or she will cry til you softly speak to her and tell her goodnight! If you are looking for a loving dogs who will be your little shadow, then consider Xena! - I forgot to add in the last update that we have messed with Xena and she has been fine. We stick our hands in her food, pull her tail, pull her ears and just annoy her. She just ignores us!
