May 25, 2009 - Boxer'In on the lake would like to introduce our new foster boy, Poet. Poet was picked up as a stray and turned over to a shelter and found his way into rescue from some angels who pulled him and got him on his way to us. Poet thanks all of you for your kindness that he will never forget. Poet is a beautiful white boy with natural ears and docked tail. I don't think that he has been very well taken care of but his luck has changed and a perfect new family will be lucky to have him. He is very very skinny and every bone just shows but he is eating great at his foster home so weight should not be a problem much longer. Even my neighbors are commenting on how skinny he is. He is a tall and long boxer who could easily weigh 65 to 70 pounds. He will be a big boy. He has been a very good boy so far. No accidents in the house and he crates very well. He is very cute as he has a little patch of black by his eye with a black nose to match. He came in with the name of Poet and he is beginning to know that is his name. He has some scars on his legs where maybe he was on a rope tie out at his previous home. He will be seeing the vet to get neutered and to have his ears checked out. They do a little bleeding at the tips when he is active and I'm not sure what that is from. We'll get him all checked out. He is sleeping in our bedroom on a dog bed and does great. He is getting along with all his foster brothers and sisters with no problems except that he does need to be neutered badly. The resident dogs all voted today to get him neutered ASAP! We will keep you posted as we get to know him better each day. One thing I know that he loves is BALLS. Doesn't matter what kind, how big or what color. This was funny this morning. Some of the dogs woke up early and wanted to go out so Poet got up, came immediately into the living room where he found the jolly ball and picked it up to take outside with him. He must have been dreaming about it all night. Now he is playing with a handball and he pops it and it just ended up in one of the water bowls. Didn't slow him down for a second, he came up with it like he was bobbing for apples. This boy is going to supply some fine entertainment.

June 3, 2009Poet has settled into his foster home with no problems. He has put on a few pounds and is now at 61 pounds. He eats 2 good meals a day and enjoys getting treats when he performs the commands that he knows. He knows sit, come and shake and is beginning to recognize his name. His foster dad kept saying his name is Poet and he doesn't even know it. He is learning. We have realized that he has a great love for balls and the last two days has been squeaky toys. He plays very hard with his toys and spends alot of time chasing them. He went to the vet over the weekend to have an exam and he was found to be very healthy and will be neutered on Wednesday. We had noticed that Poet's nose was a little crooked and the vet looked at it and thought that is was not a birth defect but probably an injury from an accident or someone could have kicked him when he was younger. Poor Poet. He still loves people after all that. Poet is young and will benefit greatly from some obedience training once he gets to his new family. Poet crates very well during the work day and he loves getting his frozen peanut butter filled marrow bone. Didn't take him long to learn that. He continues to sleep on a dog bed in our bedroom and is great all night. Poet has had a bath which made him feel wonderful. He had no idea when I put him in the tub what was happening but he was very good. If you are looking for a very devoted young dog, Poet might be the boy for you. He really tries really hard to please and he won't let you down. He will be ready for his forever home after his vet visit this week. Think about making him a part of your family.

June 22 2009 Poet continues to do really well at his foster home. He is now ready for his forever home. He has been neutered and is feeling much better after his surgery. He has settled in very nice at his foster home. He really amazes us with his ball playing skills. He loves to fetch and bring back and when you bounce a ball, he can amaze you with his catching skills. He very seldom misses. He has gained some much needed weight and looks great. He is going to be a big boy once he gets filled out. He eats anything that you offer him. I always wonder how a dog comes into rescue looking like him being so skinny when they will eat anything that you offer them. The person that found Poet as a stray said in his surrender paperwork that Poet was very very weak when he found him. He even had to pick him up to put him in his car as he was so weak. Those days are behind him now. Poet loves to play and he will certainly liven up any household. He loves people. He is a busy guy. He is completely housebroken and has no accidents. He continues to be a very good boy in his crate when we are at work. Poet likes the other dogs and will play with them often. He has so much energy that the other residents here can't keep up with. Please take a look at this guy. He is really cute and will love his new family once they find him. He's young and has a whole new life ahead of him.
