February 6 2010 - Lacey has had a miserable life to date. She was owned by an Amish breeder
down in Ohio. When she didn't take on her last heat, he callously shipped her off to a high kill pound.
Frightened and left there with a fever, she was brought to our attention and immediately taken out by
caring volunteers. She made her way to a local vet, she received blood work and antibiotics, rested
for a few days and then got a lift to us. Her fostermom took her to her vet. It was determined that she
no longer had a fever, but needed some time to clear up a discharge before spaying. She received her
vaccines and had a culture done and some more blood work. After initially thinking she had pyometra (an
infection of the uterus), the vet determined that was not the case. So, Lacey will spend a few weeks
getting better, then be spayed. The vet in Ohio initially detected a slight heart murmer, we will monitor
this as we think it can't be too bad, she's 5yrs old and that possibly, it is the result of inadequate
care and that she wasn't feeling so good the day she went. She is learning all the sounds that go along
with living INSIDE a house but her foster mom reports that she is just a love bug and adjusting like a
champ. She is very mild mannered and gets along wonderfully with the resident dogs. More to come as we get to know her!
UPdate February 18, 2010 - She is doing well on her housetraining and is definately crate trained.
She is quiet in her crate and keeps it very clean. She just loves any attention she gets from me, my brother
or the dogs. She is super sweet and patient, never getting mad at the extra attention she gets from the boys.
She loves going for walks and doesn't pull. We are working on some manners as she she will occasionally jump
on me to get my attention. Health wise she is doing great...takes her antibiotics easy when tucked in a moist
chunk of food and is eating and drinking well. I put bag balm or Vasoline daily on her nose to moisten that
dry patch up. She lets me put her ear drops in too no problem! What an easy dog!!
March 4 2010 - Lacey is getting spayed tomorrow and looking for her forever home. She has a clean
bill of health and is ready to move on. Please consider this very well mannered middle aged Boxer!
March 19 2010 - Well Miss Lacey was spayed 2 weeks ago. When they went in to remove her uterus,
they told her foster mom that they found a tumor. We sent it out to be biopsied. Lo and behold, it wasn't a
tumor, it was a calcified fetus that she never expelled. Her body kept trying to get it out, thus the reason for
her temperature and discharge. She has recovered just fine, the vet didn't pick up any heart murmer either. So,
this girl is waiting patiently for her forever home with a clean bill of health!
March 29 2010 -Lacey has made a full recovery from her spay surgery. She just got her staples out today.
Now she is already for her forever home. Lacey wants nothing more than to be part of your family. She is sweet natured and
loving. She loves to be right by your side. Lacey gets along great with other dogs and is starting to show an interest in
toys and playing which she previously didn't get to do. She is great on walks and doesn't pull at all. She is crate trained
and knows some basic commands. She is very quiet and hardly ever barks. She is house trained. Lacey would love nothing
more than to be part of your family.
