May 5, 2008 Best Friends Boxer Rescue would like to welcome Josie. Josie is an owner surrender, her family has had some difficult times and felt that it was in everyone's best iterests to surrender Josie to rescue. More info as we get to know her!
May 6, 2008 - Josie is such a ham!! Lu (our resident female Boxer) has been too stuck up to play with Josie and this is when Josie tries to display dominance by humping. Other than that there are no problems between the two and there was never a problem between Jo and Miller (our resident 13yr old male Golden). Last night we made Lu down/stay on her dog bed (after she had some 1 on 1 time with me and a rare Dairy Queen snack) and we got out a brand new Kong tennis ball for Jo. Man she LOVES those. Sean was on the floor for about a half hour semi-boxing (not too much but she needed to expend some energy and she is the one that initated) and playing with the ball. Jo was even gentle when "boxing". She has a very, very deep voice, especially when playing. In fact, at first Sean thought she was showing mild aggression due to the pitch, but it was all in fun and play and no aggression was displayed at all.
Jo's skin is already looking and feeling a little better. She's not nearly as itchy and most of the scabby bumps are gone, but she does have some patches where her fur needs to grow back. She's done great with both chicken and fish and really seems to like the raw. I have been Kenneling when we are eating because she has put her paws on the table and when the dogs are eating because of the food aggression between my 2 only.. That's about it, all in all we've had a wonderful experience so far.
June 2, 2008 -
Josie was moved to a new foster home to see if we could figure out what
type
of forever home that would make her happy. She has been here one week
so
far and she is doing well. She is good with all the other boxers here
at
her foster home. She is a great eater and never misses a drop. She
doesn't
seem to have any issues with her food bowl except that it gets empty
way too
fast for her. She knows a few commands like sit and will often offer
you a
paw or two. She is crated during the work day but I think this week I
will
leave her out for a short period of time to see how she does. She has
been
good about going in her crate as she get a frozen peanut butter filled
marrow bone that she has become very fond of. She has gone to her cage
and
then thought better of it, but if I go to where she is and talk to her,
she
will come very easily with me to her crate. Her cage is not messed up
when
we come home and she doesn't appear to be stressed but her nose will be
sore
and red from working on the crate. She hasn't gotten into anything so
it
might be worth seeing how she does outside of the crate for a short
period
of time. Josie likes to play with other dogs and will pick on the
older
dogs that don't want to play. She is learning but I think she just
likes to
have some fun knowing that she is bugging them. We have two deaf
boxers
here and it is funny to watch her try to get them to play when they are
sleeping and she is barking at them with no response. She hasn't
figured
that out yet. Josie will benefit from obedience class and it will be a
good
bonding experience for her new family. Josie was an owner surrender
from a
quiet established couple and I think a not too busy of a household
would be
good for her. She is very loyal and always wants to be near her
people.
She can always be found laying at your feet. Please check back to see
how
she is doing. She is a very beautiful reverse brindle girl who is
longing
for a home to call her own.
