March 4 2010 - Jill's only been with us for a day and 1/2 but shes settled in nicely. She gets along with all my dogs,my younger boxer Hope is very pushy and wants all my attention and she tries playing with Jill and she really just wants to rest . So for now I've kept Hope away from her till shes up to playing. She has not had an accident in the house , but she doesn't ask to go out I just take her every couple hours. She will go in her cage but she really doesn't care for it , after a short time she will bark. I guessed her weight at 40lbs , shes a tad thin and needs a few pounds on her. I will be taking her to the vet in a week to get her stitches out and will have her weighed. She likes her dog food soft so I add water to the dry food. She shows no food aggression at all (she ate right along with my 2 older dogs) .She has no clue what a treat or a toy is , hopefully that will change over time. She didn't know how to go up and down stairs . I don't think shes been an inside dog, but shes loving it now . Also she hasn't jumped up on anyone and does not seem to get excited over loud noises . She walks well on a leash around the yard but i tried to take her for a short walk and she just wanted to go back to the house. ADDITIONAL SIDE NOTES: Jill was a stray to one of the pounds in Ohio that we work with. She looks like she has had a few litters, but is now spayed, up to date on her shots, and ready for a new life!

UPdate March 29,2010 - After an overnight stay with a family that adopted Jill, she was returned through no fault of her own. The house has two young children and they felt that Jill would do better in a home with no children or older ones. Jill continues to enjoy learning about life inside a home and lovin the fact that she will never again contribute to the pet over- population problem. Jill is just looking for a home where she can spend time with her family and give slurpy kisses. She would do well with or without another dog. She is fully vetted now and ready to move on. Please consider this lovely boxer!

Update April 19 2010 - Miss Jill waits so patiently for a home of her own. Shes still doing great . She still wont go for a walk , she does well on the leash around the house and going to the vet ect... but to get her to walk down the street she does not want to go. She's coming out of her shell. She and Hope are my forward dogs they are always first in line for a treat. They love playing and running around in the yard. When shes in the house shes quiet and lays down and behaves herself .All my dogs are well behaved in the house even goofy Hope , Jill takes her cue from the other dogs.

June 15 2010 - Had a great weekend camping. Took Phoenix (one of our dogs) and Jill and our friends had their 3 little dogs everyone got along great. Jill had a ball, the first day she went for a walk, after that she didn't want to leave the camping area (she really likes being a homebody) She did all her business behind the camper like a good girl. She spent most of her time playing with Hunter or sleeping . She didn't bark at other dogs she loved laying out by the fire and watching people walk by. At night we kept our bedroom door open a crack so she would know I'm there and she was fine and slept all night . A few times i put her in the camper while i was outside and she didn't become anxious . No accidents in the trailer , she seems to be getting pretty good about where to go potty (as long as she isn't stressed out) She really is a great dog . Jill waits very patiently for the home that will be hers forever. She had a slight setback, foster mom noticed a very slight head bob, the vet put her on a small dose of phenobarbitol for petit mall seizures. The medication is inexpensive and she takes it twice a day. Her seizures were very mild and almost un-noticable, she doesn't pass out, fall down, her head just bobs. This girl deserves a home of her own, and the love of someone that will appreciate the beautiful boxer she is. She in turn will never make you sorry!

July 12, 2010 - After careful consideration, Jill has moved up to WNY to join our foster home. She has some medical issues that we felt would be better addressed here. So, this is what we found. Jill had a complete blood workup. All her levels were absolutely normal. She is on a good dose of phenobarbitol for her seizures and hasn't had any since joining our crew. Her new family will have to give her one pill twice a day for the rest of her life. It's very simple, one in the morning and one before bed. They are relatively inexpensive and if you didn't know she had seizures, you would never be able to tell by watching her, she has been seizure free since starting her meds.. She is a typical boxer. There is absolutely no side effects, she's active and happy. She also had a urinalysis run which was completely normal too. Her fecal annalysis showed she is parasite free. Last week, she had a small cyst removed from her front paw, right where the dew claw would have been. It had white gunk in it and the doctor felt it was not neccessary to send out for biopsy. She also had a gingival resection performed. Her gums had developed an extreme case of yuck. They were actually growing up over her teeth. So, 99% of the hypoplasia was removed, she had a tooth removed and a dental cleaning. Now, for my recommendations. Jill does not need another dog in her life if that's your situation. She would be completely comfortable being the only dog. Here, we have two other boxers and occassional visits from our dog niece Bacci (small mix) and from our neighbor Ludwig (German Shephard pup) and she does just fine. She has no interest in interacting with them, she just wants to be by your side. She is truly a people dog. She has done wonderfully with our 4 grandchildren and the many kids that come by to swim. Although Jill is crate trained, she will drool while inside. She doesn't bark or try to get out, but she certainly doesn't like being in there. The downfall to that is if I leave her out of the crate, 4 out of 10 times she will have peed. With that being said, I believe that the best home for Jill is one where someone is home or you have a work schedule that overlaps your other family members. The "accidents" are lessening, I think she is becoming more comfortable and learning that if we leave we always come back. I think she didn't have much interaction with whomever owned her before and she fears that her human is leaving her again. An older couple that aren't looking for a frisbee dog or a dog that needs to be walked 3 times a day would find Jill to be right up their alley. She is calm and doesn't mind being near you and watching some TV. I guess what I'm getting at is that Jill can't go to a home where she would be crated all day and she needs someone with patience as it will take her a bit more time to settle in than some other dogs. So, Jill has a clean bill of health, and is just waiting for that right person to see her potential. Could that be you?
