December 7, 2009 - Jada was an owner surrender to a pound that we have worked with before.
Her owners had her since she was a puppy and she lived with 4 other boxers. They run into some
financial problems and felt they had no other choice but to turn her in. How you do that to a
faithful friend is hard to comprehend, but none the less, that's where she ended up, scared
and unsure. Our contact got in touch with one of our volunteers and we had the room so in she
came. Understandedly so, Jada was very confused. All she wanted was to go back to the life she
knew. She keeps to herself, is very quiet in her crate. She hasn't met the resident 2 males and
1 female Boxer or the kitten, but she was very good when they were by her crate. She will be spayed
in the coming few days. She appears to be between 6 and 7 yrs old, a senior, but active and
friendly. Dogs at this age still have many good years ahead of them and are past the puppy stage.
All she's looking for is a new best friend, 2 good meals a day and a comfy place to rest. Her fee
is reduced, and further reduced if you have adopted from BFBR before. More to come as we get to
know her!
December 13, 2009 - Wow, Jada has come a long way this past week with us! When she showed up,
she was so scared and nervous. She displayed this by licking the air and pacing non-stop. I'm happy
to say that both of these actions have completely stopped! We feel Jada was missing a 4 legged friend
and as soon as we introduced her to our 1 yr old male she started calming down. She now spends time with
our 2 males (the other is between 2 & 3) and should be introduced to our female by the end of the week.
We are working on her with the 4 month old kitten, but it will be a bit before she realizes he's not a toy.
All of our dogs were like this and we've successfully trained them to co-exsist. It just takes time and patience.
Jada was spayed on Thursday and is ready for her new forever home. She knows sit and down, walks well on a
leash and doesn't fuss when crated. I have a room here that's just for her and she doesn't bother anything
at night when she's alone. She does well with our 3 kids (ages 6, 11 & 13) and after her stitches come out,
I will try taking her when I pick them up from school.
I think Jada would benefit from having a male fur sibling that isn't too overly active. She should do okay as
an only dog, but may take a bit to adjust to that. She loves attention and walks. She doesn't require much
activity and is happy just being with her people.
January 12 2010 - Jada moved to another foster home this past week. The house she was at
is very busy and Jada just didn't seem to settle in as well as we would have liked her to. There was
a female boxer at that home and she and Jada had a dissagreement as two females of any kind
will sometimes have, but she had no problems with the two resident males there, go figure! Everyone felt that
it would be best for her to go to another home. She reports that she likes where she is, the kids are great,
the fellow boxer is handsome and a real nice boy and the foster mom ROCKS! She says I am the perfect pet
for anyone. She says don't let my age stop you, I will repay you with all the love I have, lots of kisses
good behavior and a faithful friend for many more years to come. I may be starting to show my age around the
face with some white hairs, but when the rescue lady came to give me a lift up here, she showed me her greys
and sang me some kind of song that went like this: "there might be a little dust on the bottle, but don't let
it fool ya bout what's inside".
