How You Can Help

"Never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society's punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way." ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

Donate: BFBR is funded solely through our adoption donations and the generous support of fellow animal lovers. Like most rescues, common expenses include: pull fees from shelters/pounds, dog food or supplies, and veterinary care - which can range from a simple office visit for a fully vetted dog to "the sky's the limit" (which means a dog might need tests, spaying or neutering, vaccinations, or additional specialized medical care). Any monetary donation amount is always welcome and can be sent directly to BFBR at:
P.O. Box 63
Hamburg, NY 14075

You can also use PayPal through the following link:
BFBR also graciously accepts donations of items that can be used by our foster dogs such as dog beds, bedding, collars, leashes, food, toys, ink, printing paper, phone cards, stamps, crates and kennels or runs. BFBR also participates in a paper recycling program. We have a collection box in Hamburg, NY and if you would like the address please contact linda@bestfriendsboxerrescue.com. We also participate in ink jet cartridge and cell phone recycling through Cash for Critters. The cost to you is nil because we will send you a prepaid mailing envelope when requested.

Transporting: Sometimes dogs need a ride to get to their foster home. Since our area includes all of New York state, Pennsylvania and North East Ohio, we sometimes need legs filled to get a dog in to rescue. We have a private yahoo group that is geared strictly for transport requests. If you would like to be added to our transport group, please send your request to linda@bestfriendsboxerrescue.com. Transporting can be a great way to help out if you can't foster. All you need is a vehicle, gas and a few hours. Usually, a transport leg is 40-70 miles. All transporters meet at pre-arranged locations, usually off highway exits in highly visible areas. You will never be asked to meet someone at night or in an area you are not comfortable with. Sometimes, the first leg is done by a shelter volunteer or an owner who is surrendering their dog but sometimes that is not possible and that leg may be listed as "NEEDED". If you volunteer for that leg, all pull fees will be paid before your arrival. No transport will ever begin without all legs being filled and all legs will be monitored meaning that you call the transport coordinator when you pick up your dog, when you hand him/her off to the next driver or when you encounter a problem. You decide how many transports and how often you want to drive.

Fostering: Ah, fostering a dog! Click here to learn more about the foster program.

General Volunteering: BFBR is always looking for energetic people that love dogs. We can always use your help in the following areas:

Boxer Liaison: Visit shelters, pounds, humane societies, veterinarians, boarding kennels, pet stores, etc. in your area to give them brochures and business cards telling them about BFBR and how we can help if they have a Boxer that needs a home.

Creative People: We are always looking for fresh ideas for the website, designs for our cafe press store, help with designing brochures, logos and blogs.

BIT Volunteers: A BIT is a "Boxer Information Table". Sometimes, we are asked to set up a table at a pet store or a community days event that will let people know about beautiful Boxers, our rescue and the virtues of adoption rather than buying. We are always in need of volunteers willing to set up a BIT, man the event, accept donations and talk, talk, talk Boxers!
