February 13,2009 Friday the 13th was definately a lucky day for Hope! Hope was turned into a pound in Ohio that we frequently work with. She had been neglected both physically and mentally. Her "owners" tied her up in the backyard (she picture of her living conditions and those of her fellow backyard inmates) and basically left her there to receive food and water when it was convenient for them. The pound and animal control are pursuing charges against the owners. Anyway, her guardian angels Nancy and Marge made sure that she would be safe and got her to Best Friends Boxer Rescue. Hope is way underweight, she is now on strict crate rest and made her way to the vet on Saturday. As I thought might be the case, the bumps on her front legs are lick granumomas that became infected from cronic licking. They are easily treatable and she has been wormed and is on a round of antibiotics. She currently is too weak to be spayed. More to come from her foster mom soon!

February 16, 2009 - Hope went on her first 1 mile walk with her boxer brother PJ. She did great on the leash no pulling or dragging (she did do a lot of zig zaging ) . She spent most of the walk with her nose to the ground. She encountered 4 barking Boston terriers on the walk and she ignored them. We then had a small dog come out of his yard barking like crazy and go right behind Hope and again she ignored him. So far I have not heard her bark yet. When someone comes to the door she runs and hides but after about 5 minutes of being introduced shes very friendly with them. She loves giving kisses, were working on her manners she likes to jump( not because she excited she just wants you to hug and kiss her) she loves begging for food hopefully soon she will know what DOWN means. `

February 19, 2009Thursday Feb 19th- Hope is doing great, its really hard to believe she was a outside dog , she is adapting well to life on the inside. I went back to work after a month of being off on a voluntary lay off (I work 3rd shift) She went right in her cage and Curt said he never heard a peep out of her the rest of the night ( during the day she sleeps with me upstairs). so it appears she has no separation anxiety. She doesn't seem to have a food aggression either, I have reached down and moved her food bowl when she was eating and she was fine. The second day we had her she did growl at my 2 dogs when they got close to her cage when she was eating. They now all eat in the kitchen together and I have had no problems ( I do stand watch why they are eating). Jackie thanks for your advice with the rock it has helped a lot. Shes not as shy as she was, when someone comes to the door she now goes to the living room door and peeks out to see who it is. If anyone is looking for a watch dog she is not it. She has been at our house for 6 days and I have yet to hear her bark , shes as quiet as a church mouse. I would love to keep her shes already stolen my heart but if I keep her I wouldn't be able to foster more dogs, 4 dogs in my house would be to much. I'm just glad I get to keep her for a few months till shes healthy. I hope to get her out for a walk again as soon as the weather gets a little better and I want to get her a bath soon ( I wanted to let her settle in)

March 24, 2009 - Hope has recovered nicely from her terrible start in life and continues to be just the best dog. She has finished her antibiotics but her legs will always carry a few scars from her infections. She will be seeing the doctor soon for a spay. Please consider this wonderful girl as your best friend. She has so much love to give, you will be rewarded tenfold.
