Britches/

Because Britches is still a baby, he will only be placed in a home where someone is home most of the time!

March 9, 2008Best Friends Boxer Rescue picked up Britches today after his guardian angels in Ohio sprung him from the pound and drove him to meet us. Britches is 1 year old, he is a poorly bred Boxer,he has a longer snout, a tail, 4 white socks, an a typical Boxer personality. He rode well in the car, met the resident 2 females and 1 male Boxer here, ate his supper and unlike our other new foster Rosie who is resting comfortably, Britches is looking for a play buddy. He will make his way to the vet sometime this week to get the once over and get an appointment to be neutered. More updates to come as we all get to know each other.

March 13, 2008- Britches has settled in quite nicely here at the Boxer Inn. He is a friendly, outgoing pup who will make someone a nice companion. He plays nicely with the other male Boxer here, not too rough at all. He treats the 3 older females respectfully, never getting in their face. He crates like a champ, he doesn't mind going in at all. He is working on house breaking, he will go to the door, but if you're not fast enough, he will have an accident. He is scheduled to be neutered on March 24th, at that time, he will be wormed again and have a heartworm test. He has many of the typical Boxer traits.

March 25, 2008 - Britches made his way to the vet yesterday. He is now neutered, up to date on his shots, heartworm tested and negative and worm free. Everyone there liked him. He is a typical pup, barked at everyone but was fine when they approached. You've seen this kind before, bark, try to act ferocious but be backing up! He is doing great on his housetraining, he has had no accidents at all since last update. He crates wonderfully. He definetely needs leash work, he can be a puller. Spring is coming and he would love to have a "best friend" to box with, could it be you?

April 8, 2008 - Britches has been here a month now and he is such a great boy! He is totally house trained and he goes in the crate by himself when given the command to "kennel up". We are also working on leash manners, using the gentle leader. He is used to it, walks easy, doesn't pull and sits when I stop walking. We use lots of treats as positive reinforcement. We are working on the "come" command too. That's going a bit slow, but progressing. If you got time to continue working with him, he will reward you 10 fold.

April 24, 2008 - Britches is trying to figure out why he doesn't have a home and family of his own yet! He is neutered, up to date on his shots, heartworm negative and on preventative, worm and flea free, housetrained and working hard on his manners. He is absolutely welcoming of people coming to our home and we are walking outside everyday to expose him to the leash and how to walk with one without pulling. He will bark at people on our walks, but he just wants to meet them. Britches will benefit from someone that will lead with positive reinforcement, guidence, patience and leadership. He is still very much a pup and can be "mouthy" with hands and pant legs but we are making progress using the squirt bottle. He still has a tendency to chew once in awhile on something he shouldn't, namely, only one of my socks. Good thing I wear plain white ones, I've always got a pair! He does wonderful with all dogs he meets, but not having another dog in the fam wouldn't bother him in the least.
