April 8, 2008 Best Friends Boxer Rescue welcomes Arlex. More to come as he settles in!
April 10, 2008
Arlex is the newest guest here at the Boxer'In. He is a beautiful 1
year
old fawn male with a white chest and a little white on his paws. He
is a
big boy and I am guessing he weighs 65 pounds. He is a beautiful dark
fawn
color. He will be visiting the vet next week to get updated on his
vacciantions and will be getting neutered. Most of the girls here will
agree that he needs to keep his appointment next week:-))) He has been
a
perfect house guest for his first day. He hasn't missed a meal and he
wastes no time eating. His foster dad tonight told him to get back over
to
his bowl and finish and he looked and it was gone already. He settled
last
night into his bedroom suite and fussed for a few minutes and then we
didn't
hear another word out of him until this morning. He had not
acccidents
overnight. Today was a work day and he spent the day in a crate and
was
good. He enjoyed a frozen peanut butter filled marrow bone to help him
pass
the day. He was very glad to see us when we came home. He has met all
his
foster brothers and sisters and seems to be enjoying their company.
The
girls are giving him a hard time but in a few days, they will all be
best
friends. He is a sweetheart and knows a few commands which he is happy
to
perform for you to get a treat. Obedience training will be just what
he
needs with his new family. He does pull on a leash but that will come
along
with attending obedience. He is really quite a character and I would
consider him a doofus. When he lays down, he quite often has his back
legs
coming out the back. He loves attention. We were laughing at him today
as
we have a steep hill in our backyard and he was laying down on the hill
with
his head lower than his body. His foster dad told him that all the
blood
was going to rush to his head. No one lays down on this hill except
for
Arlex. If you are looking for entertainment, I think Arlex might be
your
boy. More updates to come as we get to know him better.
April 24, 2008
Arlex has been to the vets and brought up to date on his vaccinations,
tested for heartworm and is negative, now taking monthly preventative
and
negative on his stool check. So, he is ready and waiting for his new
forever home. He continues to be a good boy at his foster home and has
surprised us with some obedience that he knows. When you call him, you
better be ready because he comes at the first call, he sits and downs
almost
without asking. I have been working on him sitting before he gets his
dinner and now I don't even have to ask, he just lays down but pops
right
back up. So he will need some work on staying. Recently, he has
decided
that he likes stuffed animals and his big purple Barney is his
favorite. He
took it outside and his foster dad told him he really shouldn't take it
outside but to a one year old that is like saying, take that outside.
So a
few minutes went by and his foster dad told him to go and get Barney,
he
stood there for a few seconds proceeded to go outside and bring in a
big
pink horse with red yarn trim. We were laughing hysterically. He is a
big
boy, 70 lbs to be carrying around a pink horse. He loves helping
outside.
I raked the backyard last weekend and piled all the big sticks in one
pile
and you know, I loved picking up those sticks many times. Good help is
hard
to find. He has a stick tonight that is about 3 ft long and has been
trying
to bring it in the house and I keep telling him, Arlex outside. This
boy
can keep you wondering what is he going to do next. He provides a lot
of
entertainment. Arlex is a good boy and will make a great addition to a
family that will make him a big part of their lives. He plays hard
with the
other dogs and has lots of energy. He might be too rough for real
young
children. He will be worth every effort you put into him.
